I admit, I haven't looked that closely at every collection but I had a peek at most of them. None of them really convinced me to blog about except Acne and Wood Wood – two premium brands considerably cheaper than most of the other things shown on the runway these past two weeks. I haven't bought anything from Acne for quite a while now but at the same time I have always included them in my favourite collection sum-ups each season. The whole mood of the collection gets me every time and the styling is perfect.

Do you know Venetia Scott? Not only is she quite well-known as a stylist in the fashion industry but she's also a really good photographer. She's been styling the Marc Jacobs ad campaigns from the beginning with Juergen Teller (working with him a lot in the early days and they were a couple at one point and have a child together). Her photographs are immediately recognizable among the flood of fashion editorials. She's regularly photographing ad campaigns for A.P.C. and Margaret Howell and editorials for various magazines. As with Juergen Teller, she only does an assignment if she has complete control over the process and the way of dealing with it. I guess that's how you can maintain that distinctive look and stay true to yourself.

Happy new year everyone!! Thanks for still bearing with me in 2012 even though my blog entries have become somewhat of a rarity these days compared to a year ago. I often have a hard time choosing what to blog about (especially related to fashion) and I don't want to spam you with outfit entries either but you may rest assured that I am not abandoning this blog. But let's have a look at my outfit now. Fortunately, there's no snow in the city (where it only turns into big piles of mud) so I am able to wear these comfortable pair of sneakers from Nike. It's the same model as in one of my previous entries just in another colour. I love the sporty and relaxed cut of sweatshirts so what's better than combining that with a warm wool fabric for winter? Our Legacy has become my new favourite brand for basics.

I recently made myself an early christmas present and purchased this book from a reseller on amazon.com. Go-Sees by Juergen Teller was published back in 1999 by Scalo (doesn't exist anymore unfortunately but was one of the big art book publishers back then) and printed by Steidl (very popular art book publisher today). The book contains lots of portraits of young girls by Juergen Teller that visited him in his atelier in London during the late 90s to present themselves in hope to maybe get the photographer's attention for a consideration in the future. Those visits are called go-sees in the fashion industry. As more and more agency called Teller if they could send some models to his atelier, he told them not to just send the ones the agencies thought were interesting or pretty but to simply send all of the girls they have. So the book presents a really nice demographic study of models in London back in the late 90s.

I have been pretty obsessed with shoes and socks lately, which lead to several new purchases and also a lot of internet researching about different brands, materials and manufacturers (mainly UK-based ones). Sanders, Mark McNairy and Our Legacy shoes are all made in the same factory in the UK. Alden and Crockett & Jones might produce some very fine shoes but they just don't suit me yet. Those are two facts I have learned in the past week. Socks shouldn't be neglected and add a nice finishing touch especially if you roll up your trousers. While browsing many online shops over and over again I came across a lot of nice pairs that would make a fine addition to any wardrobe and I put my favourite ones together above. My next pair of shoes for spring will definitely be from Tricker's (these are perfect!!).

I wasn't aware that Miu Miu had such a beautiful ad campaign this season. Hailee Steinfeld was photographed by Bruce Weber and she somehow fits really well despite her young age. It seems to become normal to use very young actresses for ad campaigns (think Marc Jacobs). I don't mind as long as the outcome is as pleasing as this one and it's not sexually offensive.

Temperature dropped over 10 degrees over the past week and it's suddenly near the freezing point. But I shouldn't be surprised as it's soon December anyway. I am keeping myself warm with layers. Love comfy sweatshirts for that, my wool blazer from Albam and my gigantic scarf from Acne. I recently got these derby shoes from Our Legacy in collaboration and exclusively for Très Bien Shop, which is my favourite online shop. I seriously spend each day a few minutes to look through all the things – fashion candy for my eyes. Back to the shoes. I love the chunky crepe sole and the smooth soft calf leather and the contrast stitching. I was surprised how comfortable they were to walk with. To keep my feet warm I got some thick wool socks in addition.

I've been wearing lots of sneakers lately. Walking around the whole day in town at a certain pace makes your feet hurt a lot no matter how soft your leather shoes are. And I actually really like the new models Nike has been putting out based on some of their old sneaker models. I have featured this denim jacket before and I still love it, made out of the softest denim cloth I have ever touched and with large handy pockets to carry around all your stuff – no need for a bag. Too bad you can't properly see the little dots on the socks on the photo as they add a nice detail.

I decided to ditch my old habit of posting my favourite shows from fashion weeks. It doesn't mean I am not looking at the runway shows anymore. I do, because I still love to discover new designs and new ideas. But somehow the whole concept of presenting one collection every season no matter what doesn't get to me anymore. Instead I will just post collections randomly when I feel like they must be shared. Below is some footage of the Acne Spring/Summer 2012 womenswear fashion show. Acne has truly transformed into something much more than just the jeans brand they used to be in the beginning. Even established fashion editors and websites like style.com acknowledge that (read the review here). The styles on the runway might not be as basic and wearable anymore as they used to be in the past but I am sure that Acne will still continue offering their old classics. Tonight at 6pm (GMT+1), Acnestudios.com relaunches their new website.

I wanted the classic Barbour jacket called Bedale for a while and I finally made the purchase as I was in need for a nice all-around jacket, that can be worn during cold and windy autumn days (and it actually was while I took these pictures). Another premiere on this blog are my Nike sneakers, which I have had for a couple of months now. I love to wear sneakers these days, because they're just so comfy after wearing exclusively leather shoes for a long time.

Stephen Shore, born 1947, was second to get a solo show at the MoMA by a living photographer. He started photographing at a very early age and already sold three prints when he was 14 to Edward Steichen, the curator of photography at the MoMA back then. During the early seventies, he started doing road trips, at first with another friend and later on all by himself. That's when the photographs below were shot. He titled them American Surfaces. Although they seem like regular snapshots at first, they're unmistakably by Stephen Shore. He simply wanted to record everything he came across. Along William Eggleston, he helped establishing colour photography where it is today. Many famous photographers (Nan Goldin, Thomas Struth and Martin Parr just to name a few) have listed him as one of their influences. His work American Surfaces may have not been well received by the audience back then, but it was certainly a turning point for him and colour photography. American Surfaces is one of my favourite photography books and an endless source of inspiration. If you have only the slightest interest in colour photography, I suggest you have a look at this book as noone handles colours in photographs as Stephen Shore.

Another roundup of streetstyle looks from recent weeks that piled up in my Google Reader folder. I am really surprised myself that almost all the girls are wearing ankle length skirts. But I definitely seem to like that look. Unfortunately only one guy in the selection below but not an unfamiliar one. Especially love the platform sandals on girl #3, the sweatshirt/shirt combination of Gustav (#4), the all black outfit of girl #7 and the sneakers of girl #12.

Some of you might have seen a snapshot of my slippers a few months back on my Twitter and here they finally are. I figured the slippers are worn best with the most simple outfit in the most simple colour combination possible because of the bold pattern on them. I found them somewhere around the Grand Bazaar in Istanbul. The fabric looks to be the same used for traditional Turkish carpets. I also love the fit of this t-shirt. Slim and fairly tight around the neck.

I was in the mountains (La Punt Chamues-ch) for a couple of days and did a hike from there up the mountain along the rock face to Hotel Castell and Zuoz .Check my Twitter for a photo from said hike. It was nice to briefly get out of Zurich but I am also happy to be back.

Do you know the streetstyle blog Turnedout.tv? I can't believe I have only heard about it recently and after one peek I couldn't stop clicking next page. Maya Villiger (apparently grown up in Switzerland and now based in New York) captures people who inspires her and puts collages together. Her more recent streetstyle photos though are not the typical ones you see on other websites. She photographs with film and the photos look like something you would find in Juergen Teller's Go-Sees. It is actually how I intended to take my streetstyle photographs after I couldn't be bothered anymore to carry around my heavy DSLR but unfortunately I never made my plan reality. Venice Biennale 2011

The 54th International Art Exhibition of the Venice Biennale opened its doors in June and as every year it is being held (only in odd-numbered years), I went there for a couple days. I stayed in Chioggia, which is approximately 90 minutes away from Venice by boat (I know, it sounds like a lot) but I definitely prefer to stay outside, since Venice is too overcrowded for me. Chioggia is basically like little Venice with little to no tourists and very cute too. It was also very convenient to travel by boat as my hotel was right by the pier. This year, the Biennale was not as spectacular as in recent years but somewhat very focused nonetheless. It is directed by Swiss art historian and critic Bice Curiger. The exhibition is entitled ILLUMInations. Spreading over an area of over 10,000 square metres, the exhibition is divided into two parts called Giardini and Arsenale displaying 83 artists in total. The country pavilion that you see on some photos are based in the Giardini (garden/park). I put my favourites into the slideshow below and tried to write down the informations I remembered in the descriptions of the photos.

Sorry for my long absence from blogging. Stable internet connections are rare in the countryside of Thailand so I thought I would give myself a little free time and resume my blog duties when I got back to Switzerland, which was this morning. I finally had some time to look at the couture shows and I absolutely love what Riccardo Tisci did for Givenchy. I am sorry but I think I have a never-ending love for Acne and there is no cure in sight. Their designs might not be ground-breaking or totally new but I love the subtle luxury of these garments and even though they're not as hefty priced as other designer brands, they don't have to hide in terms of quality. Also, they just know how to combine everything nicely together. As for the rest of my favourites below, I loved the coats and jackets shown at Burberry Prorsum, Dries Van Noten and Lanvin. If you looked at any menswear collections this season, let me know your favourites in the comments! William Eggleston

William Eggleston is one of my favourite photographers. He is an American-born photographer in 1939 and established colour photography as legitimate artistic medium in art galleries and museums while it was only black and white photography before. Eggleston also had the first one-person exhibition of colour photographs in the history of MoMA. Check out more of his photographs here. As some of you know from Twitter or Facebook, I am heading to Thailand today, so blog updates might be a little slow over the next two weeks.

I grabbed this A.P.C. canvas/leather bag from sale and it is a nice replacement for my canvas tote bags. The weather was so unstable the last couple days, that I have been always wearing this coat over a t-shirt or sweater. It is light enough to not worry about heat and it is absolutely water-proof due to its Gore-Tex fabric. I like to add sporty elements to my outfits from time to time.

Pretty similar to the last outfit entry but here is nother denim shirt by American Apparel, and while it's not the brand I usually look for when I want to buy new shirts, their latest creations are really appealing to me. This one is made in a particular lightweight and soft denim cloth, which you can also recognize by all the creases it got from wearing the whole day. I love this shade of dark washed-out khaki, which goes perfectly with my new natural burlap Toms and the solid navy chino trousers from Albam.

Uff. The end of the term is approaching and I am basically at school everyday in the darkroom doing some black and white prints in the old fashioned manner, which needs quite some practice. Change is good, so I decided to pick up another pair of Moscot frames. I am so happy with the Lemtosh that I didn't even look at any other brand. I went for a totally different colour and also slightly rounder model – the Miltzen. They're not replacing my Lemtosh but it's nice to be able to change your frames and give your face another look whenever you feel like.

It was really sunny last week in Zurich and it was finally time to leave your coats on the rack and put on my straw hat for the first time this year. In spring, sunny doesn't equal very warm so you still had to layer a bit and I really like this flannel shirt by American Apparel for that. They even stepped up the design with nicer looking buttons than on previous shirts. These oxford shoes are the ones I was talking about in my previous Bits And Bobs entry. They are from the 50s and I found them in a vintage store in London in one of those streets at Seven Dials.

It has been almost three months since my last Streetstyle Selection entry and fashion week is always the best time to collect them. I like all the various maxi skirts in this selection and as usual what inspires me the most is how they combine colour, pattern and different fabrics. Institute for Fashion Design Basel Gradute Show 2011

The graduate show 2011 of the institute for fashion design in Basel took place a week ago and it was the first time I had the chance to attend. I was already impressed solely by the size and organization of the whole event and they surely do not have to hide from any regular fashion show. You already kind of notice how much money is involved and what prestige it must be in Switzerland to graduate from that school by looking at the long list of sponsors. There were 18 collections in total from all the graduates. The overall quality and finish of the clothes looked impressive as far as I could tell from my seat and you could sell them straight from the runway. Most of the clothes looked rather futuristic (in a good way) and more or less wearable. Wearability shouldn't be a criterion for a graduate collection anyway though. Shini linked me an interesting interview about this subject matter between Cathy Horyn and Louise Wilson (director of the M.A. program at Central Saint Martins). Here are my favourite looks from the show and I would love to hear how they compare to graduate students from your city or country.

This is one of my simple everyday outfits for chilly days. The wool blazer in combination with the sweatshirt is warm enough when it is cold in the morning and evening but not too warm for sunny days. Too bad you can't see my vintage oxford shoes here that I got from my trip to London but I will bring them in another entry.

Paris Fall 2011

Another season is through with the last day of Paris fashion week fall 2011. I took my time to check every day on style.com for new collections during Paris fashion week. Lanvin is definitely my favourite from Paris once again. Givenchy is probably one of these collections, that you either hate or love – the latter for me. I also really enjoyed the collections of Haider Ackermann and Christophe Lemaire's first collection for Hermès but decided not to include them since they did not meet my personal taste. There were not that many livestreams, but for those who could not wait for the first pictures to arrive, there was NOWFASHION, which delivered them live while the models were still walking down the runway. There has been only fashion week coverage on my blog and nothing else besides my Sunday entries but since it is over now, my next entry will finally be a new outfit. It has been almost ten years since Juergen Teller last shot an editorial for a german magazine. ZEITmagazin comes with the german weekly newspaper DIE ZEIT and they always have a high standard in regards of photography. Juergen Teller is a long-time contributor. He used to have a weekly column where he would show one photo of his archive and write a little bit about that moment shown on the photo. Since he stopped doing that I am glad that he shot the special fashion issue, which ZEITmagazin releases biannually. Current it-model Andrej Pejic, who walked Jean Paul Gaultier's haute couture finale this season, is the face of the editorial – yes, it is a guy. You can see all photos here.

New York fashion week is going to end tonight and the fashion crowd is moving on to London. While I didn't have time to watch most of the livestreams, I made sure to have a look at all the photos that appeared on style.com the day after. The designers from New York are often pretty young compared to the ones in Milan and Paris so the collections feel very fresh. I am so glad that Olivier Theyskens is back on the fashion week schedule. Here are my favourites in alphabetical order. Acne Paper No 11

Acne Paper is still my favourite magazine. Issue no 11 was released a couple of weeks ago. Every issue is about a certain theme and this one is the studio issue. As usual there are several editorial shoots in this issue and lots and lots of interviews with artists or people about their creative space and explore the connection between creativity and environment. This issue is the biggest so far with 50 pages more than the last one. You can order it online here. I'm still missing Acne Paper No 1 and 3 to have the complete collection. I am still in Milan (until next Tuesday) but I was able to take some pictures. This was my outfit from today. When I visited London last week, I fell in love with the clothes by Albam. They offer classic wardrobe pieces for men but in their own way or how they call it: Modern Crafted Clothing. They are trying to produce their clothes as close to England as possible. The prices are very reasonable and the quality of the fabric and finish are top-notch. I can't even say what I liked in particular because I basically wanted to buy everything. And I also can't stop raving about them.

Fall 2011 Menswear

Menswear shows for fall/winter 2011 in Milan and Paris are over and I picked my favourite looks. It is also the first time that Acne did a runway show to present their menswear collection after last season's first runway show for their women's. I like how they break down the classic looks by adding a printed sweatshirt (Acne) or workwear jacket and beanie (Yigal Azrouël). Also love the contrasting socks (Lanvin) and that beautiful red coat (Raf Simons), which is such a bold statement. I probably missed quite some gems, so please let me know in the comments which were your favourite ones.

Who would have thought that I included something from Nike in one of my Bits And Bobs entries, ever? But let me tell you, this jacket is not the only thing I regularly wear by Nike. Their line called Nike Sportswear has some very nice jackets. This stripped down version of this varsity jacket has a special nano coating, which makes it totally water-resistant and water just drops off. I also like how the jacket breaks down the very classic combination of shirt and sweater.

As some of you probably know, I am currently studying at the University of Arts in Zurich at the photography department. I just finished my first semester, which included an exhibition of our work at the end of the semester. We get one theme every semester and in the end we have to come up with an idea and produce a work (loosely) based on that theme. This semester's theme was "dream, beauty and fun", which are synonyms for our consumer society. I made a photo series about Swiss fashion designer Tran Hin-Phu and followed him during the preparations for his fashion show at the Fashion Days Zurich 2010 back in November. I filmed a little walkthrough of the exhibition with everyone's work that you can watch here. The video below shows my work self-printed as a zine with the lovely help of Lisa Mettier.

Winter has totally arrived in Zurich. The temperature is below zero and the whole city is covered in snow. So it is time again to wear as many layers as possible. I always wear a t-shirt underneath my shirt, which gives me that extra layer, that keeps me warm no matter what. Just make sure it doesn't show through the shirt, especially if you are wearing thin white ones. I decided to leave the garment overview out from now on because it saves a lot of time for me which means more outfit entries in the future for you, sounds good?

I already mentioned her in an entry about a year ago after she won the Elite Model Look International 2009 and after impressing me with that editorial shoot in Swiss fashion magazine Annabelle. Nowadays it seems that she is having a really busy schedule and is being booked for runway shows and fashion shoots everywhere. She appeared on the runway for every important designer in Milan and Paris last season including Chanel, Fendi, Dior, Givenchy, Céline and many more. Rumor has it Anna Wintour was the one who discovered and mentioned her to Lagerfeld and also that she is also going to be in a fashion spread shot by Mario Testino for the Februrary issue of Vogue US. She also currently appears in a lot of Pre-Fall 2011 lookbooks like in Thakoon's which is pictured below. I am so glad for her and we will certainly see a lot more of her in the future. Go Julia!

While I was looking for art schools in other countries because I might wanna do an exchange year or semester, I came across the photos of Sophie van der Perre and was captured immediately by the intimacy and atmosphere of her photographs. She is studying at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague. She is only 22 and has had several exhibitions so far and did an internship with Ryan McGinley, one of my favourite photographers. Pogobooks is making several little art books and zines with different photographers from everywhere. I like the charm of zines because it somehow creates a very intimate feel when I look at them since it has got this self-made and personal touch. Of the few I ordered, Not Many Kingdoms Left by Jeff Luker is my favourite. I have yet to order the one by Tamara Lichtenstein though. I rather buy these kind of books or zines at the moment instead of big photo books and I also started doing my own little zines just for me and my friends. At least for now. It is so nice to have your photographs printed and the possibility to show them anyone anywhere without a computer.

H&M Spring 2011 Women

H&M again! I know there was a lot of coverage about H&M lately on my blog, but immediately after the launch of Lanvin pour H&M, they already had the collection for Spring 2011 ready at the showroom. I went there again and picked my favorites and you might notice compared to previous seasons that I picked a lot more. I especially liked the silk shirt and the leggings with suede patches.
